CBD has been in the spotlight as of late. It interacts with the body’s endocannabinoid system and can promote restful sleep, help regulate mood, and more. There are several ways to consume CBD. It can come in the form of vape oil, tincture, edibles, skin products, capsules, and more. This week, we’re placing the spotlight on terpene-rich hemp oil tincture.

What is Tincture?

A CBD tincture is essentially CBD extract in a liquid form. Tinctures are made by dissolving an herb, in this case cannabis, in ethanol alcohol or sometimes vinegar. It usually takes several weeks to make. The cannabis is soaked in the alcohol for six weeks in an airtight container in order to fully extract the CBD. After six weeks, the plant parts will be strained out of the liquid and the tincture will be ready.

What’s the Difference Between Tincture and Oil?

Since tinctures and oils are both liquids, they might sound similar, but there are actually quite a few differences between the two. CBD oil is pure CBD added to a carrier oil. It can be used in many different forms, such as skin care products or topical pain relief products. If you see pain relief creams with CBD in them, it’s likely that CBD oil was used. Tincture, on the other hand, is CBD oil with other elements added into it to make it easier for the body to absorb. Oils are used topically and orally, and tinctures are formulated specifically for digestion and absorption into the body.

What are Terpenes?

Terpenes are one of the elements sometimes added into tinctures to make them easier to absorb. They’re similar to an essential oil. They give cannabis its unique smell and taste, and can have lots of health benefits. Terpenes in THC can enhance the “high” effect, however, CBD doesn’t produce a “high.” It is important to note that terpenes themselves do not produce a high, they can just enhance the effects of THC and/or CBD. As such, terpenes can still have benefits in CBD- for example, they can produce a relaxing effect and help people sleep more easily.

What are the Benefits of Hemp Oil Tincture?

Hemp oil tincture, specifically CBD, can have many benefits. For one thing, it can help with occasional sleeplessness. CBD can help relax the body, even though (unlike THC) it doesn’t produce a high by altering your state of mind. It can also help relieve pain from exercise and support healthy joints. There are many topical creams with CBD in them that can be used to ease sore muscles, but tinctures taken orally or put under the tongue can be just as effective. CBD can also be used to support the immune system and help relieve everyday stress. Though CBD doesn’t alter the state of mind in the way that THC does, it can help you stay calm and relaxed in the face of stress and stay in a positive, uplifted mood.
